Cross, SC (day 6)

Another beautiful day. We’ve been really lucky with the weather…high of around 86F (30C) today. Almost Mexico weather! I got the rest of the work with the air springs finished today. Very happy with the way they work, so I’m looking forward to putting in a full tank of gas and still have the vehicle ride level.

So then I took the Lincoln for a ride into town. Sherman still needs the front sway bar bushings replaced, and the Advance Auto Parts website said that this store had them in stock. It was a 20 mile (32 km) ride each way, only to find out their website was wrong. So I’ll stop at another store along the way over the next few days.

Sherman survived his operation!

But I did manage to pick up a new thermostat. Seems like we’re not getting enough heat out of the dash when it’s cold out, so I think maybe the old one is stuck open or something. So I got that changed and hopefully we’ll be warm, seeing as we’re heading into some colder weather over the next few days.

A weiner tree!

This evening, we went and visited with some of Pete’s cousins and had a fire and barbeque. They did pheasant and ribs…it was a real southern party and we enjoyed meeting everyone. Didn’t get back until after midnight, so we may have to put off our early start tomorrow morning!

We’ve had a great week visiting with Pete and Pam and will make a point of returning again on our next trip south. Thanks for everything Pete and Pam!

  1. Looks like you guys had a great time with friends, and Sherman is getting ready for his trip north. I can imagine how you must have a problem finding parts , when I had to order an axle shaft for a truck as common as a Chev 2500hd. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna..

  2. Stunning sunrise!! We hung a curtain rod near the ceiling just behind the driving chairs and placed 3 panels of curtain that we pull across when its cold out so the heat stays in the front area. When we use the A/C we also pull the curtain across so it stays cool just where we need it. At night this is quick way to create privacy without having to use the front window curtain. All purchased for a minimal price at WalMart.

  3. Sam and Donna...We had such a fantastic time. Pete and Pam were wonderful. Hoping to see them out east this summer. Yeah, its frustrating sometimes having to get parts, especially for older vehicles.

Contessa...Thanks! I have thought about a curtain between the seats and the living area, our only problem with that is Whiskey really likes sitting in the passenger seat, although having separate panels might help. Something to think about.

  5. We are either at the dinette table, sitting on the couch watching a movie, gone out or gone to bed. When we are driving she is usually asleep on the couch.

  6. Our curtain has about 12 inches of space from the bottom hem to the floor so if the dogs want to get water they just go under it while we are driving. At night when it is closed and they want to sit on our driving seats or the dash they just go under and to the other side. Seems to work for all of us.

  7. Contessa...Sorry, I was confused. I thought you meant you used the curtains when you are parked up. Never occured to me that you would use them while driving too. Definitely something for us to think about.
