Cross, SC (day 5)

We slept in a little this morning. We had planned on leaving here at 8:30am to go visit John and Ellen at Congaree National Park, but we didn’t wake up until 7:30am!

So it was almost 9:30 by the time we got on the road. Pete and Pam left us their 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII to use…a very nice ride, compared to Sherman! It was about an hour and 10 minutes to the park.

They get the VIP campsite (Volunteer in Park!)

John and Ellen are volunteering at the park, so they get a full hook up RV site to use. Any other RV camping is free, but there are no hookups so it’s all dry camping.

We went on a long walk through swampy old growth forest. It was a flat, easy walk, so we ended up doing about 5 miles, we figure. Whiskey did fine, but you could tell she was a little tired by the end of it.

It was a beautiful day, and perfect for a walk in the woods. Temperature was about 78F (25C) and with a clear blue sky. Too early for insects yet, so we didn’t have the bugs bothering us either. We really enjoyed the day.

Still have a bit of work to do to Sherman tomorrow, because we plan on leaving here Saturday for a long one week drive to Nova Scotia!
