Excitement at my Dad's!

Well just like Kevin said in his post, it has been hot the last couple of days.  Luckily yesterday my shift at the campground was in the store/office so I was in air conditioning.  I was off at 1pm and headed back to Sherman to get lunch for Kevin and I and then we were off to Perth for Kevin's afternoon courier run and to drop me off with my Dad for a couple of days.

My Dad and I were just finishing up our dinner on his deck when the excitement started.  We saw the neighbours behind us moving around and seemed to be looking in the bush at the side of their house.  We didn't think anything of it, then the neighbours right next door walked over to say hi and let us know that a bear was just sighted behind my Dad's place.  It seems to be wandering around and checking things out.  As we we headed back into the house a car stopped on the road and we could hear talking saying something about the bear again.  We put the dogs into the house immediately and I grabbed my camera and ran outside to the road.  By this time it had already started back up through the bush at side of the nieghbour's, back up the neighbour's place behind my Dad's where the excitement first began.  I managed to get up to their place quick enough before he/she disappeared into the bush once again.  I was able to get a picture but it is a little far away.

The bear is the black blog behind the white flowers

This is not good quality as I zoomed in on the original photo once I downloaded it to the laptop, but it shows the bear a bit better

Who knows maybe we will see him/her again.  It looked young, maybe last years baby.  Bears have been seen in the area before but never this close to the village.

I wanted to post this last night but I couldn't get on the internet.  Part of Toronto had a blackout yesterday evening and I think that is what stopped me from getting on the internet.  I was able to get on before dinner and again just before I went to bed after 11pm but not in between.  My Dad even tried his laptop as well as his desktop with no success.  The blackout was due to a transformer blowing because of high electricial usage, all the fans and A/C units trying to cool things down!

  1. My oh my the confusion the poor bear stirred up! He was probably looking for something to eat, and the territories are all marked off by bigger bears... could be a young male who hasn't gotten a territory yet and is out checking out the local real estate. LOL

Hope he finds a home soon that doesn't involve your dad's property!

  2. Yep, that's what we figure. He looked young and is probably scouting out territory. He did like the neighbour's compost bin, it is the black plastic kind that lies on a stand and you can turn it to mix up the compost. Well he knocked it off the stand and hugged it, then apparently stood up on his hind legs and leaned against their car. They were in their house looking out the window at the time.

Haven't seen the bear today though.
