Didn’t have a great sleep. It sounded like something was on the roof. I know I had parked under a tree, but the branches were well above the roof. I looked out the back window, and the branches were covered in heavy wet snow! Every time the wind blew, a branch would knock against the roof making it sound like something was running around up there.
With all the rain, and now the wet snow, we’ll be lucky to make it out of their muddy driveway. And then we’ll have to see if the roads are driveable. They don’t have anything in the way of salt and plow trucks down here. As Marc says, their snow removal methods are all natural. The lord giveth, and the lord taketh away!
Outside our window at Marc and Cathy's this morning!
10:50am
Left Marc and Cathy's at around 9:45am this morning. We had walked with Whiskey down to their gate and checked the road. we figured it would be no problem for Sherman, and sure enough we got out without any issues at all.

Still in Virginia, but only a couple of miles from North Carolina
Drove about half an hour south...and no more snow!
Posting this from the town of Ahoskie, North Carolina. Hoping to get to Surf City, NC tonight, but I guess we'll play it by ear! Will update things again later!
4:35pm...
Well, we made it as far as Maysville, NC. Not quite as far as we wanted, but close enough. Just happened to see the municipal office, so Ruth stopped in and asked if we could park somewhere for the night. The guy in the office said there was a church a little further through town and that we would be fine there...so here we are! And, we have a weak internet connection so am able to post in real time! It rained on and off pretty much the whole drive today...terrible weather, but at least we seem to be out of the snow belt...for now. Only 140 miles (224 kms) to Myrtle Beach.
8:40pm...
We took Whiskey for a walk around 5:30pm. As we arrived back at the church parking lot, I saw the sign on the front that said "Wednesday Bible Study 7:00pm". This is a southern Baptist church, and I figured the parking lot might be full and we might be in the way. Anyhow, Ruth started making supper and around 6:3o the first car arrived. The guy drove back and forth and stopped and looked at us. So I got out and went and spoke to him. I told the story about the guy at the municipal building who said we should be able to park here. But this man said he would have to check with the deacon because there might be insurance problems. Can you imagine? What would be the difference if I happened to park here to go to church? Anyhow, I said fine, and to let me know if there was a problem. He then invited us to join them for bible study. But unfortunately I had to decline because Ruth was going to have our supper ready soon.
Anyhow, they have all left now, and nobody came to tell us we couldn't stay here. We're pretty tired, so I think we'll do some reading and then hit the sack!
